What a road it has been

Greetings!  Yes, yes it has been a bit, since I have entered a post.  Just so much going on as of late.  I will try to recap and it should go pretty quick.  Before we get started I have included the song Eyes Wide Open by Fear Blind.  One of my favorites.

Things have been crazy busy at work and in the evenings and every weekend we have been working on a housing project.   We have repainted the entire interior, updated the bathrooms, fixed lighting, cabinets and more.  Then we cleaned and cleaned some more.   We can see the light at the end of the tunnel I hope.  Tomorrow the new carpet and flooring goes in.  I am sure we will have some touch up painting to do when they are done, but that should wrap this project.   So glad that this one is behind us.

Although we have the interior done,  I still have five sections of fence down from the wind storm last week, that I am going to need to work on next.  Going to need to figure a new approach as the wind really takes it toll on our six foot fence and seems like I am always making repairs.

Well I do have some sad news to share.  Our little Boston Terrier passed away last week.  Mable had been with us for 15 years and was a great little dog.  For about the last year she was struggling, she was mostly blind and deaf.  She had arthritis pain and anxiety issues.   We will miss her.

Poor Mable

My poor little Mable had an indecent this last week.  Candy took her and Pebbles out for a walk.  She went down to the meadow, but on this day we had an issue.   She came across another dog owner with a pit bull that was off leash.

The pit bull took Mable to the ground and locked on.  Keep in mind Mable weighs 10 pounds, wet at best.  The owner was able to break the dog off Mable.  Candy got his information and I am sure he got a lecture.

Everything seemed to be OK with Mable, she was a little shaken.  They walked the rest of the way home.  When getting home Candy noticed the blood and Mable was pretty much flat, she couldn't walk any further.  In looking one of the teeth drove deep into her just left of her spine.  She was bleeding badly and the area was swelling up.

She was down and out.  She din't move the next few days and had a visit to the vette for xrays.  Tonight she is moving around a little better.  Impressive considering she is 13 years old.

The last days

Well the party is just about over.   I have been off work for almost two weeks and have tried to enjoy every minute of it.   But honestly I am looking forward to getting back after it.  The weather has sucked and I didn't get everything done that I wanted to, but oh well, I wasn't at work.

Now a quick break for music appreciate:

Yesterday we got out with Pebbles and did some walking.  I took the camera with me and got a few good shots.   Once again, Pebbles got me off my butt and out the door walking.   We had fresh snow to hike in and Pebbles loved it.   We left Mable at home as it was to cold for her.   She let us hear about it when we got home, she wasn't happy.  Here is a collage of the pictures from yesterday's hike. Candy is sporting her Colorado Heart hat that she made.

We headed out again today and got some distance in.   Today we took Mable and to be safe a I took a backpack with me in case we had to carry her home, and I knew we would.   Both the dogs had a great time and it was good for me to be out,  I need the miles.   Once again I took the camera and got the pics below.  You will see that I am sporting the Ninja Turtle hat that Candy made me.

I have been doing pretty good at logging 10K + steps a day.   Below is the distance it has tracked for me over the last two weeks.

September 14th

OK, so with the title being today's date you might be asking why?  I did't see any Humming Birds today on the feeders.   I will check again in the morning before I leave, but usually we see them both morning and evening.  I didn't see any today. (Sad Face).  So I wanted to get this down, so I can track when they leave again next year and have a reference.  Nerd!

I crossed the 50/mile mark today for my walking for the month.   Pretty excited about that, but still fat.  We walked up to the top of GCR and then caught the trail back down.   Mable went with us and did well, although she was looking for shade on the way home.   I am starting to wonder about her, she lost her footing at least twice that saw,    I noticed it again at home to.  As I write this she is standing next to me with her squeaky.  I have thrown it about 5 times and she keeps bringing it back.

It will be tough for me to get some good mileage in on foot this coming week as I am traveling and will be in Austin Texas and Chicago Illonios.  I will have to adjust my schedule some to make it happen.   Need to check the weather so I know what to pack.

I have a few projects on my list.  The first being a quilt ladder.   Candy is hooked on Pinterest, and  has been coming up with all kinds of recipes, crochet patterns, design ideas and so much more.  I am planning to build some quilt ladders, so if you want one let me know.  We are going to put one on the living room in the corner behind the recliner.   Should look pretty good as Candy has a couple of quilts that her Mom made.

She also want's me to make her a heart shaped mirror out of the old fence wood we have collected.   I couldn't find any examples so I might be onto something.

OK, need to go finish packing up for my trip.  Have an awesome week!

The Horns

Today’s hike to us back to the Horns. Candy and I met up with a coworker at our office. And then we headed out. We had our dog Mable with us and Nik had his dog Princess. We drove up Old Stage to the parking area. We were not the first as a gray Toyota Tacoma was parked.

We loaded up and headed up the trail. The dogs dig great and stayed with us all the way. For the most part they were off the leash. We moved pretty quick today up the trail. Early in we passed the owners of the gray Toyota. Nik and I ventured off the trail at the top and climbed up the rocks the rest of the way to the peak. The up portion was easy; the coming down was a little intense. There were a couple of places that if you slipped or the rock gave way; you would be going home on a helicopter. Everyone did great and we even found a trail that we may have to go back and try next week.

Sunday Morning Hike

Headed out of the house at about 9am. I took the little dog with me today, Mable. I stuffed her in my backpack and started walking. About a mile and half in, I pulled her out and let her walk the trail with me. She did damn well! She was always in front of me and didn’t get to far ahead.

She made it about 4/miles when I loaded her back up. The weather was great and we were able to 7/miles in for the day. This brings the monthly total up to 78.93/miles.
