On the Trail

Last weekend we were up on the trail.   Pebbles got a chance to jump in the water and she was pretty happy about it.

She loves the water and jumps in any time she get's a chance.  We were out early and it was nice as we didn't really come across any other people.   We did come across a deer who was hiding in the bushes.

I got me some uphill

Well looks like I will hit the 100 mile mark this month.   I managed to rack up some miles the last couple of days.   On Friday I took the long way home and was able to get 6.5 miles logged.   I came home through lower BCP.   I came through a section that had a long area of tall shrubs off to the right of the trail.  In the shrubs their were numerous birds.   The were whistling and chirping away.   I stopped and record the sounds on my phone.   It actually came out pretty well, I may have to make it my new ring tone.   On the way home I was on the hunt for Coyotes.   I didn't find any but I did find a what I think is Coyote den.   Will have to check this week and see if I can see any coming or going.

This morning we logged 5.8 miles by doing Section 16.   We haven't done this route in a while so it was nice to be back on it.   Guessing we saw 12 to 15 people today, including other hikers, joggers and a couple of bicyclist.   This trail has a pretty good incline to get you started and then a gradual decent.   As of writing this I can feel today's hike in my upper thighs.  I included our route today and the elevation profile.   I had forgotten to turn the GPS on when we left the trail head so that's why you see the gap.

We went out to see the new GI Joe movie.   It was OK, lot's of pretty faces and lots of action.   You can beat movie popcorn.

Just need to get 3.5 miles in and I will break a 100 miles.   Guess we will walk the dogs over to the dog park and make a lap or two.    Going to have to go early as we are having Easter brunch at McKenzie's Chop House.  I don't think either one of us felt like spending all day cooking a big dinner, as it's just Candy, Clark and I.  Eric has been out in Santa Monica visiting a friend and get's home tomorrow evening.   I tried to get us into the Cheyenne resort but the earliest they could seat us was 3:30 pm.   That's was just way to late in the day.

Call me crazy, the neighbors do!

As most of you noticed last night we had a full moon.   We even had a full lunar eclipse last night but it was not able to be seen in North America.   We had talked about doing a full moon hike for a while and last night was the night!

We drove up to the Section 16 parking lot and headed out to do the Palmer Loop Trail aka Ring the Peak.   There were just the three of us out on the trail as no one else was crazy enough to do this with us.

For the most part we had all the moonlight we needed to light the 5.8/mile trail up, over and around the mountains.   We did take our headlamps with us and used them when needed.  You just needed to remember not to turn and look at the person behind you as you would blind them and vice versa.

As far as taking pictures, ha it was dark so only took a few close ups.   I did notice that on this trip no one had there IPods on so they could be sure to hear if something was in the bushes about to get them.   We didn’t see any wildlife at all until we were back to High Drive and then it was just some goofy kids partying in there car.

The hike took us just under 3/hours to complete.   We were back at the car just a little after midnight.  Hey did you know that Sonic on 8th street is open 24/hours!  Very cool as we all needed some frosty beverages once we were done.

When do you really get a Vacation?

I started my vacation today, but when is a vacation really a vacation. I think part of the problem is that I am so anal that I am afraid I am going to miss something. So I am always checking email to keep current on what is going on. It is liked being a smoker or hooked on drugs. With technology I can keep current and be found just about anywhere I go. Even though I am off I have a sales call tomorrow and plan on doing it from the Mountain with my phone and IPad. I don’t know why I worry as I work with a team of very talented people who all know what to do.

So my first day off was very busy and I hope to keep just as busy the rest of the week. This morning Candy and I drove up to Section 16 and did the Palmer Loop Trail. This is a great trail as the scenery is beautiful and after you get up the first 1.8/miles the remainder of this 5.8/mile hike is downhill. This is also part of the Ring the Peak Trail. The initial incline goes from 6,630ft to 7,725ft a nice 1,086ft climb in 1.8/miles.

We made pretty good time and actually passed two groups on our way up. I packed chicken that I had cooked last night for dinner as well as two turkey sandwiches. We didn’t get to the food until we got back to the truck. We opted for the sandwiches as the chicken would have been a little messy, but I did have napkins with us.

Then we headed to the office where I had to drop off a few items and then headed home. Once home we hopped in the hot tub and relaxed for a bit. Then I threw a roast in the oven. I am cooking it in Cream of Mushroom soup, Wine, Tomato Paste and Garlic. It should be ready soon so I will let you know how it came out.  (AWESOME!) cook at 350 for about 4 to 5 hours depending on size!

We made our list for the Thanksgiving dinner and headed out to the store. I am glad that we went today as the store wasn’t too packed. Hey and lucky enough we found everything we were looking for. Made it home and got everything put away and then started a fire in the fire place. Ready to just kick-back for a while and then lay out my clothes for tomorrows outing.

Moonlight Hike

Well I made it out on Tuesday night and headed up to section 16. I started at 8:30pm and finished up around 10:30pm. With the full moon the trail was well lit in most places. I did have to turn on my headlamp in a couple of places.

To answer the question, yes it was a little spooky at first. But once I was moving it wasn’t too bad. I did snap a few pic’s but none of them really came out that well.

Candy bailed on me at the last minute. Don’t blame her though. I had the same thought myself for a little while.

Next time I think I will start later when the moon is a little higher in the sky.

Section 16 and Intemann Trail

We got a bit of a late start this morning at least late for me. We headed up section 16 and then down the Intemann trail and catching the waterfall spur. No water coming down the fall today but the rock wall was wet.

We had some great views of Red Rock Canyon and over to Garden of the Gods. I didn’t have anything with me today, no camera, water, etc. We did just over three miles. I planned on walking to work tomorrow but will now have to walk from the Chevy Dealership to the office. I have a warning light telling me something needs to be looked at.

Still working on the stories from the camping trip and hope to have day 2 done soon.
