Sure was nice out today!

I managed to get 4.7/miles in today. I had the camera and was ready to take some pictures but I couldn't get the wildlife to cooperate.

Getting back in the game

So I have really slacked off on my walking as well as keeping my blog current. Yesterday I did get 2.5/miles in and managed to get 3.5/miles in today. So gradually getting back into the groove.

At Cheyenne Mountain: Dustin Wahl won the 200 IM and 500 freestyle and was on the winning relays in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle to lead Cheyenne Mountain. The Cougars swept all three relays and nine individual events.

They also dominated the diving, with Tony Butitta (175.40 points) and Clark Robinson (136.40) finishing 1-2.

Indians Swim Past Kadets at Home

The Cheyenne Mountain Boys swim team defeated the Air Academy Kadets by a score of 180 to 131 Thursday at the Cheyenne Mountain pool. No event was spared as Cheyenne Mountain had 17 state qualifying races and Air Academy had 11.

Individual state qualifiers for Cheyenne Mountain were Jonathan Littles, 1st 200 Free and 100 Free; Graham Stringert, 4th 200 Free; Dustin Wahl, 3rd 500 Free and 5th 200 Free; Marshal McCann, 1st 200 IM and 100 Back; James Grant, 2nd 50 Free and 100 Fly; Clark Robinson, 1st Diving; Tony Butitta, 2nd Diving; Michael Bau, 3rd 100 Fly; Zane Calendina, 4th 100 Fly; and Eric Hale, 1st 100 Breast.

Individual State Qualifiers for Air Academy were Roy Barnett, 2nd 200 Free and 500 Free; Brennan Mays, 1st 500 Free and 3rd 200 Free; Devon Davis, 1st 50 Free and 100 Fly; Carson Shollbarger, 2nd 100 Free; Justin Deardon, 2nd 100 Back; and Christian Brewerton, 3rd 100 Back.

Cheyenne Mountain posted state-qualifying times in all three relays, while Air Academy’s 200 Medley relay and 400 Free relay were state qualifiers.

Round-A-Bout

Eric and I left the trail head about 8:45AM.  We made our way up High Drive and then took the twilight canyon trail.   This is a pretty decent incline for about 2/miles.  We made our way up twilight and then lower Captain Jacks and then the upper Captain Jacks and then down 666.

I only got a few pictures today but the ones I did get seemed to come out very nicely.    We found a Blue Jay, Chipmunk and a Toe head.  Not sure what the Chipmunk was munching on  but he looked happy

We logged just a little over 8/miles today.   Not sure about Eric but I ended up with a pretty nice sunburn.

Most of the trails were icy and in some sections we were in about 8/inches of snow.  We only came across a couple of other hikers today, most of them on 666 on our way down.

Out & Back

I took today off as a Holiday day.  Our company is closed on Monday but I will be working a trade show down in Orlando so took my day today!   I left the house around 7:40AM and headed down the street.     You know you are in trouble when the deer are at your door looking for food.   I came across this deer standing on the front porch of the neighbor’s house.  I guess he/she was looking for an invite to come in and eat.

I worked my way up the Bear Creek Trail up the GCR.  Just about at the top of the trail I came across some poor bastard who I am guessing slept out in the cold last night.   He was lying off to the side of the trail with a little motor scooter.   I scared him up as I went by, he moved and mumbled something.  That’s answer the question why I at times hike with a gun.

After making the loop by the creek I started my way back up.   This section was very icy and took me some time to navigate up the hill.   I made it and once I was about to the top I came across an old man who apparently slipped on the ice and was sitting on the ground on his butt.

I helped him up and suggested that he not go down that way as the rest of the trail was covered with ice.  He agreed and so we walked up the rest of the way and chatted for a few minutes.   I then took my trail to head back home and he went another way.

Got a few nice pictures today and need to start packing for my trip as well as laying out my clothes for tomorrow’s hike.

Red Rock Canyon

This morning Eric and I went and did a quick 3.9/miles in the Red Rock Canyon area. I have to say that this is one of my favorite places to go. It is not difficult and very little elevation climbs but the scenery is beautiful.


I had the camera with me and was able to snag some great pictures. I spotted a small woodpecker and a robin hanging in the trees. They were enjoying the great weather that we had today.

It was in the low 50’s and really made for an enjoyable outing. This is one of the first trips that Eric has made with me and I think he really enjoyed himself.

Making Tracks

We had a little snow last night, maybe about two inches. I headed out about 6:30AM to do a quick loop up and around GCR. Since I was the first one on the trail no one had a chance to ruin the animal tracks. I was amazed at all the tracks that I came across today. I came across Rabbit, Deer, Coyote, Raccoon and also what I think were Mountain Lion tracks. The Mountain Lion tracks were actually a pair. It was a little scary as I wondered if I was going to come across them.

The most tracks that I had seen were raccoon. They must have been out in full force last night as there were tracks all over from them.

It was snowing once I reached GCR and actually made the hike even more enjoyable. On the way down I had the wind and snow in my face so I quickened my step to get back. All in all ended up with just a little over 5/miles.
